Chateau Meyney Saint Estephe 2012

Chateau Meyney has 51 hectares of vines planted with 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 9% Petit Verdot and 9% Cabernet Franc. Of the grand vin there is an annual production of approximately 24,000 cases. There is a second wine called Prieur de Meyney (sometimes referred to as Chapelle de Meyney) with an annual production of approximately 6,000.

The 2012 Meyney is a deep, structured wine with a lot going on in the glass. The expressive bouquet alone is enticing, but all the elements simply come together effortlessly. The pliant fruit suggests the 2012 can be enjoyed young - and it can - but there is also more than enough depth to allow the wine to age gracefully for years. This is an impressive Saint-Estephe, especially for the year.

This estate is quickly returning from a long period of mediocrity. This sleeper of the vintage exhibits a dense ruby/purple color in addition to copious notes of black raspberries, blueberries, loamy soil and roasted Provencal herbs. Medium to full-bodied, it should drink well for 10-12+ years.

Located on a hillock near the Gironde, Chateau Meyney is located on the centre of its about 50 hectares single-region vineyard. This 2012 vintage is 42% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 18% Petit Verdot.
This wine displays a quite deep red colour with purple glints. The nose gives off blackcurrant and other small dark berry fragrances, as well as a nice, slightly peppery spicy hint, mixed with woody, blended and scrumptious aromas. The palate offers a harmonious and sweet side, elements that indicate a good ageing potential. Rare fact at Chateau Meyney, the Merlot part - the varietal was particularly advantaged that year due to the climatic conditions- in the blend is superior to the Cabernet Sauvignon one.
